call me shallow, but sometimes you just want to turn on the tv and watch a bunch of eye candy do nothing but compete to be one of the 7 finalists of a new male revue of 'real men' in las vegas.

vh1 is doing a pretty good job this summer by putting out ample himbo watching in the form of stripsearch and kept (where jerry hall molds the perfect boy toy). it's not rocket science, just trashy fun rubber neck tv.

after almost a year and a half after his debut release 'waiting for my rocket to come', cutie pie singer songwriter, jason mraz is set to release his sophomore album 'mr a to z'.

taking on a more hands on production approach, the steve lillywhite produced album also features rachael yamagata on guest vocals.

did they know this was their last shoot while they were shooting this video? what's gonna happen to michelle now? so many questions that only beyonce will answer in the future...

after denying things from the get go that 'destiny fulfilled' was their last album, the girls of DC have officially called it quits marking an end to their decade at the top of the charts.

weirdly enough, their hot video for the single 'cater 2 u' is most likely their last one as a trio (how's that for a legacy?)

for those of you who saw the uncomfortable spectacle on oprah two weeks ago, the insanity of the press machine that is the tom and katie relationship has gotten to weirder levels as katie has been making the rounds on all the talk shows professing her uncomfortable happiness of it all.

weirdly enough there have been alleged rumors that came out a few weeks ago about other possible candidates for tom's current campaign of love where he met a certain sin city babe and an alias goddess to discuss a long term non film role (guess katie had the best audition!)

but for those of you who are sick and tired of all this extreme pr show and feel katie is in way over her head, why not offer your support by being a member of free katie? though the site is a bit of a joke, there is a bit of truth to the almost captive situation of this perfectly talented actress.

while we're at it, have you read the kick ass breakdown of tom cruise's pr fiasco? i'm sure someone over at the hollywood reporter is forever banned from covering cruise's press, but at this rate of over exposure, will we care about cruise in a few years?

damien rice releases a new charity single

earlier this year, to commemorate the upcoming 60th birthday of imprisoned burmese nobel peace prize winning democracy leader aung san suu kyi, 27 major artists have contributed original songs and new material for the collection 'for the lady'.

everyone from u2 to coldplay to ani difranco to even the indigo girls have graciously offered their songs for this release (with all proceeds to go to the us campaign for burma).

but this month, continuing the efforts of to free the still imprisoned aung san suu kyi, damien rice has recorded a new song by the name of 'unplayed piano' to be released on aung san suu's birthday (june 19) and will also perform at two sold out concerts in london (june 20) and paris (june 30).

quick review: mr & mrs smith

it's a testament to angelina's beauty when she can even make rubber boots look super sexy!

surprisingly funny and intelligent, mr & mrs smith manages to overcome it's boombastic blow em up image and instead focus on the core issue of a stilted marriage (the fact that these two are secret assassins who discover that they have to kill each other is the least of their problems!).

but what makes this film a summer gem is the fact that director doug liman (bourne supremacy/ go) manages to engage us with the not so outlandish situation where, even with the two best looking people in the world, they have to work hard with staying together (and literally not kill each other).

my grade: B+

quick review: batman begins

why couldn't the new batsuit be like this? yes...christian bale is THAT hot throughout the movie!

single handedly reinventing the batman franchise, director christopher nolan (momento) has created a complex, fun and memorable movie experience that should impress even the most critical filmgoer (imagine the insane glee of a true comic book fan then!).

if all summer blockbuster movies were like this, then i'd be the happiest person on the planet!

my grade: A

quick review: cinderella man

russell can lift me up anyday!

though sentimental and heavy on the 'reality' of the depression era, ron howard has crafted a perfectly exciting (the boxing scenes freaked me out) and relatively moving adult summer film that will be appreciated for years to come.

it also helps that russell crowe single handedly saves this film from total cheesiness, but then again, i am biased about my imaginary 'daddy/husband/boyfriend'.

my grade: B

quick review: sisterhood of the traveling pants

group hug everyone!

trust me, this teen chick flick goes beyond the cliches of girlhood dramas and comes out to be one of the best examples of how a support system (especially of women no matter what age) can prepare you for life in the real world.

my grade: B+

somewhat connected, the actress michelle rodruiguez has been hired to be a full time cast member of the show. after guesting very briefly last season with a scene establishing that she had a seat at the back of the plane, it seems that the doomed section may have crashed elsewhere, allowing for a whole new group of survivors to be written into the already complex plot.
