it's official: this is the summer of SUCK

none of these 'tent-pole' movies are worth your 10 bucks (or country equivalent). souless, bland and loud for no reason, these films pray that the fan factor alone will carry the box office into glorious results. well, hopefully the low box office results will prove that audiences aren't as stupid as these studios think we are. utter crap! (and yes i've seen them all by now)

BUZZ COMEDY ACT: Flight of the Conchords

i'm not usually a fan of standup comedy at all. the whole experience is just painful for me and when someone is funny it's like 'thank god' internally for me. but my friends have been buzzing about this new zealand act flight of the conchords for a bit and i finally got around to checking them out... and my final prognosis is that i kinda like them!

hailed as "the almost award-winning fourth-most-popular folk duo in New Zealand", bret mckenzie (the cute one) and jermaine clement (the other cute one with the glasses) were college roomates who morphed their band into a two person hipster folk rap comedy act.

just signed on to subpop records (after a hot sxsw performance), the duo also have an hbo and comedy central show making the rounds on tv. i've included two examples of their brand of funny below and well... like i said, these guys have won me over.

if you're interested in finding out more about this funny duo, check out their really cool fansite what the folk or be their friend via myspace.

stephen colbert's amazing white house correspondent association dinner speech

i'm a little late on this but hey, at least i'm covering it!

though i have been a sporadic fan of stephen colbert (and his days on the daily show), i now love him because he had the balls to go on the white house correspondent's dinner and do this
speech. it's 23 minutes, but it's worth the time to watch bush squirm in his seat the whole time.

here are some highlights of his speech:

"The greatest thing about this man is he's steady. You know where he stands.
He believes the same thing Wednesday that he believed on Monday, no matter what happened Tuesday. Events can change; this man's beliefs never will."

"I stand by this man because he stands for things.
Not only for things, has he stood on things. Things like aircraft carriers and rubble and recently flooded city squares. And that sends a strong message: that no matter what happens to America, she will always rebound with the most powerfully staged photo ops in the world."

MI:3 day

just random stuff that i found on you tube focused around the promotion of Alias, i mean, MI:3

first up: tom dancing on the harlem leg of his NYC tour of MI:3. this time, trying to tap into his urban audience, tom does a little dance... if there's anything that makes him look dated and weird, this is it. do the 'motorcycle' tom!

next: if you're into press conferences, this is the rome one. the entrance alone is a dramatic one.

random video: one of the worst (or best) music videos ever

video set in space? check
cheesy finnish duo singing in non-iambic rhyme? check
dancing cheerleaders? check
the best video ever is more like it!

probably a contender for the eurovision song contest, but this catchy song rocks!
