don't piss this lady off cause she will go vengeance on your ass!
after surprising everyone by leaving with the grand prix prize at last years cannes film festival with the AMAZING old boy, cult director park chan wook promised a third and final installment of what he called his revenge trilogy (starting with 'sympathy for mr vengeance').
after a year, the highly anticipated film sympathy for lady vengeance not only opened last weekend to the 3rd highest box office ever in korea, but is set to bow internationally at this years venice film festival (no US date yet, but as with old boy, this film will probably be released via DVD before it hits).
starring the popular tv actress Lee Young-ae, lady vengeance (aka Gum ja) gets falsely imprisoned for 13 years for a crime she didn't commit. after her release, she single handedly decides to go after the group that not only took away her family, but her life.
though graphic violence prevails in all park chan wook films, it's his surprising sense of humanity that makes him one of the best filmmakers in the world.
if you want to see some trailers and clips of the film (no english subtitles), either go to the official website and click on multimedia or check out the wonderful movie box (which is like a one stop shop for many asian films).
read here for a transcript of a recent press conference with the director and his leading lady.
