using the formats of the ultra campy telenovelas (but in english) that are seen religiously on latino networks like telemundo and univision, mynetwork is changing the state of US television by not only broadcasting the smartest kind of guilty pleasure programming this fall season, but also appealing to the massive bi-lingual latin community (and most likely everyone else in the process).

with self contained storylines that run for a few months six nights a week (the omnibus version is on saturday), the front runner of these uber campy telenovelas is easily fashion house starring bo derek and morgan fairchild.

i'm sure there's a plotline, but based on these snippets alone, i don't really care!

for those of us who have been unfortunate enough to have to cover stuff on red carpets, we all know that things never turn out the way you want them to. most of us just kind of adapt an on the fly attitude and just go with the flow, especially when your line of questions aren't working with the celebrity you're talking to.

which leads to the fact that 'seasoned' on air personality billy bush should be more than equipped to handle anything that comes his way (especially since he's the golden boy of the tabloid tv show access hollywood).

well as witnessed last night on the emmys, the guy is just a complete idiot. whether there was a technical glitch going on or not, billy bush couldn't handle a simple interview with emmy nominee (and then winner!) jeremy piven.

thank goodness jeremy wasn't having any of his crap and gave him a quick lashing on live tv.

as reported on my music blog today, it's like a fiesta of leaks on the net. beyonce has 5 full tracks leaked from her upcoming album b'day online. then to add more crazy fun, 4 tracks of the new jt album future sex/love sounds also got some leakage today.

k-fed sucks so bad that there's no words to describe it

last night's teen choice awards was a bizarre mix of bought airtime, myspace promotion and actual kudos.

amidst an offkey performance of nelly furtado (and the song is a rap people) and a seemingly coked up dane cook, brooke hogan (who?... exactly) wins a prize for best grillz (i mean, c'mon!) while sandra bullock/keanu reeves got best kiss (did ANYONE see the lake house? i doubt the teens did).

but the worst highlight had to have been the finale in which kfed world premiered his non existant talent to the world. it's truly painful and if there is a reason to maliciously end careers, i hope this one will begin the trend for him.

channing tatum is hot! oh, and step up's not bad either

don't laugh, but i went to go see the film step up the other day and totally had a great time (and i'm not the only one cause the film opened at #2 last week at the box office)!

for a teen flick about two dancers from different backgrounds who find their passion through dance (not a new plotline i know), the surprising result is that the film is pretty above average. with a hot HOT couple in the form of channing tatum and jenna dewan, step up is one of those films that you don't mind bringing out of your guilty pleasure category and placing it smack dab into one of the better films of the summer.

while the US is finally discovering the year old uk sensation the descent, the uk is gearing up for the release of what could be the cult comedy horror film of the year called severance.

mixing one part office with well... many body parts, this comedic take on an office retreat gone horribly wrong is not only directed by hot brit horror meister christopher smith (creep), but also stars hottie danny dyer (football factory, the business). the film opens august 25th in the uk and who knows when here...

why i'm addicted to so you think you can dance

ok, you can call me cheesy and super gay, but for the past month and a half, i've become addicted to a dance competition by the name of so you think you can dance. seems like i'm not the only one. SYTYCD has not only become a summer phenomenom, but also THE most popular show on tv at the moment.

it's cheesy and girly and totally aimed at young kids, but miraculously the show manages to give an idea of the competitive and creative nature of dance. these kids work hard and they are just insanely talented.

next week we're going to find out who's going to win (my vote is on travis), but for now, just take a look at some of what they are capable of.

when it comes to action heroes these days, it seems that the goto guy from the european contingent is jason statham.

introduced via guy ritchie in lock stock and two smoking barrels, jason has slowly created a mini action industry for himself in which he not only can guarantee decent opening numbers (the transporter series), but he's also a strong presence in group thrillers (the italian job and the upcoming sequel, the brazilian job)

but for me, it's his thug like hunkiness that well... speaks for itself. in his latest film crank, jason does his usual fighting blah blah AND for the rest of us, he not only goes shirtless but also spends a good deal of time running around in a hospital nightgown (hey we gotta get our jollys somehow)!

whats up with the last shot of this trailer? daniel looks like crap.

though the 007 fansites have been blasting the casting of daniel craig as the new bond, esquire magazine just named him the best dressed man of 2006.

personally, i've been a fan of this british actor ever since his daring performance in love is the devil (1998) and the fact that daniel has since juggled more art (enduring love) with commerce (munich), it definitely makes me respect this guy even more (it also helps that he also has no qualms with showing off his lovely body all the time).

as for the upcoming 007 casino royale film, i'm sure it'll be a blast (perhaps they can do the whole film by the beach based on these pics...)

random: check out dutch designer dre wapenaar's tent projects

i'm not an afficionado of design, but dutch designer dre wapenaar has a bunch of really cool tents that were commissioned by non-profits to make life easier for tree activists. the project obviously grew into variations of tents and his latest is the birthing tent which even has a small pool for water births.

i want one!

christina aguilera goes back to basics

just got ahold of the upcoming christina aguilera album (which i actually heard a month back) and though i can appreciate the creative leaps that she decides to take as an artist, i can't help but feel that CD1 (produced by dj premier) has the same cut'and'paste, jarring, shout in my face charm of her first single 'ain't no other man' (which can be uber annoying when you don't feel like it).

luckily cd2 (produced by the amazing linda perry) tries to diversify chistina's songs with doo-wap, blues and some songs which actually make christina sing in her quiet voice (thank you god!).

was there a need for two albums? i'm not quite sure, but if there was any way to have christina break away from her mickey mouse club past, back to basics definitely does the job.

what's it like to be at the bottom rung of the tv channel ladder? josh taub and his camera weilding buddy dave murden have decided to show you what it's like to be a PA (production assistant) over at the rock music channel fuse.

starting august 15th, fuse will broadcast josh's weekly trails and tribulations (mostly of the sucky kind) unfortunately documented by his best bud dave. between getting 'pit-stopped' by the bloodhound gang (don't ask) and forced to eat take out by the all american rejects, life ain't so glamourous when you're a lowly PA.

the speed of information: the mel gibson incident

what's interesting about the mel gibson drama isn't the crap that he's been reported to be spewing, but the speed at which his career stock dropped in less than a weekend. according to the NY Times, by saturday of the thursday scandal, quotes of his sexist, anti-semite rants on TMZ were floating around the world (via the net) so quickly that by monday mel had to check into a rehab (hollywood speak for 'go into hiding from the paparazzi') and also make a statement about wanting to meet up with jewish leaders to atone for his mistake. all i can say is 'ugh'. stop this man from making movies or have a big headed career already!

according to reuters, a high rotation music video from the bollywood movie "Aashiq Banaya Aapne" (aka love takes over), has been yanked off MTV India because of it's adult content. if you didn't know, bollywood has been pushing the boundaries of what is acceptable onscreen for the past few years (5 years ago, the actors would never kiss onscreen). so after watching the video for this film, i am shocked (it's like a skin-amax PG-13 film!!)
